10 minutes with Trevor James

He’s young, he’s talented and he’s gathering a huge fan base on Facebook and YouTube by doing what he loves the most: playing the bass. Meet Trevor James: an American bass player based in Las Vegas, Nevada. He’s playing bass covers that he records on the spot in his room. Now almost every young romanian knows about Trevor James and one thing is for sure: he’s getting viral with every second!

It was just an ordinary Sunday when I discovered Trevor. I was scrolling on Facebook’s timeline and I saw this cover:

This fellow can handle the bass. I looked him up on the web and I saw that he covered a lot of cool songs from Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson to Omarion, Chris Brown or Tank and yes: Adrian Minune and Florin Salam.

I sat and talked to him and all I can say is that he’s a genuine guy and a talented musician.

Tell me a little bit about yourself

My name is Trevor James, I’m 23 and I’m from Los Angeles California. I’ve been playing for almost 10 years. Started playing bass when I was 13, had my first gig In front of 3 thousand people when I was 14. Music has always been a part of my life. My dads a singer so I have always grown up around music. I have played with many R&B and gospels and jazz artist in LA. Most recently I put out my first album titled “Show Time” that’s out on iTunes right now!

Who are your musical inspirations?

I have so many music inspirations but I would have to say james brown and Michael Jackson are my inspirations.

Where would you most like to perform?

I would love to perform in Europe not sure where I would like to but somewhere that many people can come out and watch

If you weren’t singing, what would you be doing?

If I wasn’t a musician I would probably be a tennis player. I used to play tennis for a wile and I was nationally ranked. At one time I wanted to try to go pro.

It was always the bass or..? How did you realize that the bass is your favorite instrument to express yourself?

I’ve always loved bass, but started out playing the piano when I was younger but never liked it. I wanted to be a rock star, so my father bout me a guitar. I was getting better but I always had my eye on playing bass. So freshman year of high school I was in the school jazz band and I over heard the teacher say they needed a bass player and I had an old dusty bass I never could play sitting in my room and I screamed out I can play bass not knowing what I just got myself into but I’m glad I did and I haven’t looked back!

Do you consider yourself a vocalist as well?

Yes I consider my self a vocalist but I’m not a crazy singer like Usher or anyone like that but I can hold a note haha.

Top 10 tracks in your playlist right now.
